Dieting History

I tried the Rosemary Conley diet previously and lost about 7 lb but it took so long and it was really hard work.

I also bought various slimming magazines and tried the diets suggested in them but due to having to follow a gluten free diet for medical reasons they weren’t always very practical.

Have you lost weight before and regained the weight?

I’ve not really regained the weight but before joining WLR it was such hard work to lose anything. WLR has really shown me how to eat sensibly and also take up exercise seriously for the first time in years.

How being overweight has affected you…

When I found myself happily married about 5 and a half years ago, I started putting weight on mostly due to meals out and lots of red wine of an evening!

I hated getting bigger but failed to do anything about it. Gradually my self esteem dwindled and I became quite depressed. I had to buy bigger and bigger clothes and wore things to cover myself up instead of wearing clothes I actually liked. It was awful. I also felt really tired all the time and lost all my get up and go.

Suddenly in January I decided to do something about it. I stumbled across the WLR website and I've never looked back since.

Motivation to Diet

To begin with it was my appearance. I loved seeing my figure return and now I can wear whatever clothes I want. I love wearing figure hugging clothes and have given all of my big baggy clothes to charity. The nice comments from people have also been very motivating. But most of all I just feel so much healthier and fitter. There’s no way I am putting any of the weight back on.

Discovering Weight Loss Resources

In January this year I decided I had to do something to lose weight.

I was surfing the Internet to find some inspiration and stumbled across WLR. I signed up for the free trial and I’ve never looked back since. I’ve recommended the site to so many people I think they suspect I’m on commission!

How Weight Loss Resources Helps

The main thing I have gained from WLR is learning about portion control. I never used to weigh anything out and I was so shocked when I realised how much I’d been over eating. Entering things into the food diary is so important for me and it just makes losing weight so easy. If you stick to your calorie allowance, you lose weight – it’s as simple as that!

It’s also great for me because I can control what I eat so I can stick to my gluten free diet.

I find the information about carbohydrates/protein/fibre really useful. I’ve learnt so much about food since entering things into the diary!

The exercise diary is really inspiring. It’s amazing to see how many calories you’ve burned and then be able to eat them!

The support network on the message boards is also really important and I think it has made all the difference to making the weight loss experience so much easier for me this time round.

Even though I’m now trying to maintain my current weight I’ve no intention of leaving WLR because of the support it gives me and I’d miss the message boards too much (runners in particular).

The Best of Weight Loss Resources

I love the runners’ board. It’s like my second home! I took up running in April and joined the board soon after. Everyone has been so supportive to me and it’s so inspirational to read about how everyone else is doing with his or her training.

So far I’ve taken part in the Race for Life and two 10k races. I’ve even entered a half marathon in October which I never dreamed I would be able to do. There’s no way I would have done that if I hadn’t joined WLR.

I also use the food diary and Exercise diary on a daily basis.

Teresa's Dieting Tips

Always fill in your food diary and be totally honest. You’re only cheating yourself if you fib about the amounts you’ve eaten etc.

Even if you only do it to begin with you should weigh everything you eat. I couldn’t believe how much I had underestimated how much I was eating.

Exercise is also key – the more I do, the more energy I have. I never thought I would say it, but it’s true!

Eating sensibly and being more active has made such a difference to my life. I am so much happier and have so much more confidence and for relatively little effort.

I have lost 2st 7lbs, 4inches from my waist, 4 inches from my hips and 3 inches from my chest!

I don’t consider myself to be on a diet. It’s been more of a lifestyle change really. I just wish I hadn’t left it so long!
