Review: Cellulite and body shape treatments
Three hi-tech treatments that promise to banish cellulite, reduce fat and improve skin tone.
Worth a Try?
By WLR Staff, by Pat Wilson
We have all from time to time thought about a body shape miracle cure. A painless, quick fix slimming treatment to remove the rolls of fat on our stomachs, tone up those abs and get rid of the cellulite from our thighs.
The newspapers fill us with stories of celebrities looking wonderful after having the latest treatment or using the new miracle cream.
So is it really possible to melt off fat or massage cellulite away? The bottom line is that adopting healthy eating principles and exercising regularly will give you a healthy toned up body.
However, research and new technology mean that there are products and treatments available that can reduce the appearance of cellulite, improve skin tone, and possibly slim down an inch or two. Here's a review of some of the treatments available.
Advanced Keymodule Endermologie
Essentially an anti-cellulite treatment, Advanced Keymodule Endermologie aims to smooth skin and give a slimmer silhouette.
You are given special clothing to put on – a stretchy, cotton covering. Cylindrical rollers are placed on the skin and rolled gently over the body. The treatment is not painful; the deep strong suction effect feels like a massage.
The idea is the process restructures the skin’s connective tissue, stimulates blood and lymph circulation and facilitates the elimination of toxins. By triggering the body’s normal process for excess fat elimination this process tones, firms and smoothes the skin.
The sessions are not inexpensive – 1 x 30-minute session costs £40 and to maintain results monthly sessions are suggested.
It seems more and more people are trying this treatment and the studies done here show some positive results. Alongside a healthy eating and exercise programme this could be a monthly boost.
Vacunaut – Vacuum Therapy
Developed by an Austrian Sports Scientist, the Vacunaut promises to get rid of your spare tyre. With the claim that Vacunaut is the only therapy system in the world capable of giving a highly effective, almost effortless abdominal muscle workout.
The treatment involves wearing a specially designed suit and walking for 30 minutes on a treadmill. The machine has computer-controlled pumps, which change the pressure within to push blood directly into the fatty tissue around the stomach. This means the blood can absorb fat from the stomach and use it to power muscles. The constant change in pressure ensures that fat-enriched blood is steadily transported to the working muscles over and over again.
People with certain medical conditions (heart, circulatory, metabolic) cannot use this machine.
After a couple of months there is inch loss and improved skin tone. How much inch loss varies but more and more health clubs are now offering this therapy. Many therapists offering the Vacunaut are keen to emphasise it should be used in conjunction with a healthy eating plan.
Ionithermie Body Treatments
Ionithermie claims to be the ideal treatment for those people who have successfully shed the pounds yet still need help to tone and firm.
The treatment includes a body scrub and pressure point massage; the areas to be treated are covered with a thermal clay, essential oils and pads, which emit rhythmic electrical pulses. Ionithermie works the areas through the gentle action of a combination of faradic and galvanic stimuli, using the thermal clay and biologically active natural ingredients.
This treatment, it is claimed, promotes inch loss, reduces fat and firms and tones the body. Many who have used this treatment claim the skin is left feeling toned up and feeling silky and smooth.
Worth a Try?
It seems more and more salons, treatment centres and health and fitness clubs are including these types of products/treatments, and they are becoming more widely used.
Some of the claims for anti-cellulite and fat loss products seem a little outlandish but research and studies are being undertaken to prove or contest the claims.
Many of the treatments can prove expensive but perhaps it is worth looking at the options available to find something that suits you, that will at the very least, give a boost to your weight loss/healthy body goals. The treatments do pamper you, and should give you that feel-good factor to energise and motivate you further.
