Weight Loss History
F Plan after my daughter was born 17 years ago - successfully.
Slim-Fast - substituted shake for lunch. Not very successful as I was too hungry and seemed to catch colds easily doing this.
Have you lost weight before and regained the weight?
Not really. When I was pregnant, I got back to my pre-pregnancy weight quite quickly, but that was 17 years ago. Weight gain crept up on me over the last few years, and warning bells rang when I realised I weighed the same as when I was 9 months pregnant.
How being overweight has affected you…
I became self-conscious, didn't like looking at photos of myself and didn't want to buy new clothes because I had to buy larger sizes. I have regained a lot of confidence as I have lost weight.
I started to lose weight when my husband had an operation in February 2003. He had to convalesce for 6 weeks so I was much more active around the house. Almost as soon as he recovered, I broke my ankle! - But I continued to lose weight, as I found it very difficult to get around for several weeks. I was dependent on my family for food and I was not cooking and nibbling. This encouraged me to keep on trying, and then I discovered WLR.
Motivation to Lose Weight
I am 50 in September and decided I wasn't going to be fat and fifty. I am also approaching the age at which my mother started having blood pressure and heart problems.
Discovering Weight Loss Resources
An article in She magazine. I took the free trial and lost 4lbs straight away.
How Weight Loss Resources Helps
I find it easy to record what I have eaten. It encourages me when I see the calories used when I exercise. Putting foods on the database is so easy. I enjoy the boards, reading what other people are up to and have had a lot of support and encouragement from them. The help team is great.
The Best of Weight Loss Resources
I have used all the areas of the site at some point, but I mainly use the food and exercise diaries and the boards. I have signed up for all the challenges so far.
Marguerite's Tips for Losing Weight
Be honest in recording your food diary. Don't feel down if you don't lose, or even gain one week.
Set small targets.
If you feel you have been too ambitious in setting your rate of loss, don't hesitate - change it.
Ask questions of the help team. Don't feel any question is too silly or not worth asking - they will take it seriously.
I like being able to forecast when I will achieve my target. Remember that slow loss is still loss and will probably last.
